Here is a very small selection of the enormous body of work that my great grandmother Lili produced, mainly cross stitch these samplers marked so many births and events and are I think completely timeless.

Lost Dress in Venice

I was just reading about Nora Ephron adapting the book Love Loss And What I Wore by Ilene Beckerman for theater and although I haven't read it, loved the concept that our lives are marked by the clothes we wear. Got me thinking about what would be my picks and immediately thought of the orange gingham dress I coveted when we lived for a short time in Venice when I was 6. We were living on the Lido and apparently spent much of our summer running on the set of Death In Venice that they were filming there at the time. It seems like some sort of satorial lightbulb went off for me in Italy and is definitely the beginning or at least my first memory of my future obsession with clothes.
Luckily my mother literally keeps everything so here is a pic of the dress and although I don't have a photo of me in THE dress, this is pretty close.
